Once again: Thank you Pentax for sending me the camera to play with it beforehand! @pentax.film.photography

Is this the REVOLUTION of film scanning? (VALOI Easy35 vs. VALOI 360)
In this video I will try out a novel and (in my opinion) rather revolutionary way of film scanning: the Valoi easy35. It's a device that fixes many of the problems that occur with camera scanning and regular film holders as for example needing a tripod or copy stand, problems with leveling and distance adjustments, stray light and so on. Also, I am comparing the Valoi easy35 to the "classic" wa...
13 MISTAKES to avoid when shooting film (not only for beginners)

This is the video about 13 of the most common mistakes that happen when shooting film. If you are a beginner or if you have some experience in digital (or even film) photography already, these are important pitfalls to look out for. Switching from Leica M6 to Leica M10: same same but different?

I clocked the Summicron right away simply because I use a 50mm Summicron F2. The modern crons are so sharp. I found your Nokton to have noticeably warmer tones with a little more distortion. I’m currently shopping for a 35mm lens so this comparison was super helpful. Because I mostly shoot cars, I think I would go with the option that is more neutral in color rendering to highlight the true color of the cars. The sharpness doesn’t matter as much to me.

In a word........NO. I have a good selection of Summicron, Elmarit, Voigtlander, Zeiss Planar, and Distagon lenses. The Viogtlander Skopars, Noktons and Ultrons are as good as the others by Zeiss and Leitz. But the Voigtlander APO Lanthars are BY FAR the best of all of them.

You want a film look, just apply countless filters to digital processing of RAW data. “ film community” I have not enough words of disapproval for your consumerist hedonistic approach to global resources. You want all this chemical dirt back? What for? For your wasteful pleasure of getting on good frame per film? It might be just me, but the phone scans look way sharper than the Epson scans. Yes, the colours are out of whack, but that’s down to editing, not resolution or sharpness, one could edit the phone scanned negatives using the same software as the epson scans.

I think its a proper half-frame camera, but unfortunately what a lot of new comers to film won't know about half-frame is that costs almost twice as much to have it developed and scanned by a lab, as it would regular 35mm. I hope Pentax tries again, this time with a regular 35mm camera. Pretty cool, though!

When Pentax started this they admitted that they didn't have any people in the company that had been there in the film camera days. They were very much starting from scratch and having to reinvent the wheel. This wasn't so much a technology demonstrator as a can we even do this again demonstrator. They had announced at the start of this that the first camera they built would be a simple almost point and shoot type of camera and if they could do this and if it sold enough units then they'd work on a more advanced camera that most of us old film folks are really interested in. Will I buy one? I'm not sure right now but I do hope that they do well. We need new film cameras from companies like Pentax, Nikon and Canon. Oh I know that Leica has never really stopped making film cameras but we want affordable decent cameras not some boutique type overly expensive status symbol

It appears to me that Pentax has designed this camera to be „modular“. This is also why it is that big. Moving to a full frame point and shoot or even to an SLR could be done with a lot of reused parts. The price, tjoa, well. But then again, the Rollei 35 was around USD 1200 if you would buy it now, a roll of film would be around USD 30 and development around the same. So even at todays prices, film is not that expensive 😅

I shoot M10M and was thinking of going back to Leica iiig. I shoot mostly landscapes but what you see as a negative of overshooting - I look at as one of the biggest pluses of digital. I can spend an hour on a scene with different compositions. Come home and pics that I thought were going to be great - weren't - but others were. I would also have a hard time giving up the convenience of editing images right after a fun shoot. Instead of waiting until my roll of film is gone.

I expected the 17 to be not exactly cheap, but my expectation was more in the 300€ region. Which would have seen me very probably ordering one sometime later this year. 550 is that factor 2 that just is too much though. If I want to spend that kind of money I'll get a Mint Instaflex.

This camera is worth every cent being asked for it, it's a new beginning, digital has become sort of boring and way out too expensive. The Pentax 17 is going to be a big seller, let's stop being too critical. I too use a variety of 'old' 35mm film cameras, mainly Canon, but these won't last forever. I have a feeling Pentax may have something else up their sleeve. Exciting times ahead at last, ❤

@Karin Majoka .... I have been looking at buying a Leica T for the last two months, and it is a boxed NEW old stock that is on sale for half of the original retail value. I've been buying bits in advance like two L mount 7 Artisans lenses and a half case, but in the meantime had been entering the monthly competition run by Leica Hunter on IG. I normally watch the live prize draw but couldn't a few weeks ago, and so I watched the recorded version on their IG page / account, and to my surprise I'd won a Leica M6 Titanium body ... I'm so happy, and now I'll have a use for the 7 Artisans 28mm M mount that I'd been using on my Lumix GX1 via an adaptor .... I'll now have to start shooting film a bit more.

I just think the price is crazy. I shot half frame cameras back in the freaking '80s and '90s and they were considered a joke camera back then. The idea that I can get fully loaded Canon AE-1 kit for less then that. That being said I can see exactly what they're going for. All the kids shooting on their phone getting into 35 this is literally the best opportunity you're going to have.
